Women & Clothing - a delicate relationship
The relationship between clothing and women is complicated AF. Plain and simple. Our relationship with clothing investigates what it means to be a woman, what it means to be feminine, and what it means to be a confident human. It investigates how we interpret our self worth, the value of self, and how WE, as women, value ourselves.
When we put on clothing, we expect a lot from it. Physically, emotionally, and mentally. Can’t think of a single woman who has never struggled with their body image, and how they feel they present or look in clothing. So many of us do this every single day unknowingly too.
We are hard on ourselves, we say things about ourselves in the mirror, that we would never dare to say to anyone else, we put ourselves down, and we shame ourselves constantly.
As a women’s clothing company we’ve heard too many times, “it’s too small now, but I’ll buy it because I need to lose weight”, or “I can’t wear things that short with these legs”. And you know what? We won’t stand for it! It’s Youer’s job to strengthen this relationship, and it ain’t easy. We told you it was complicated!
You are beautiful and powerful and incredible and if you have veiny legs but want to wear the short skirt, dammit, wear it! And if you’re a size large now, but think you’ll fit into a medium in 6 months, then dammit buy the large! Confident self expression is a lifelong journey and none of us are perfect at loving ourselves, but we have to start somewhere.
