How we offer carbon neutral shipping
What’s our most popular product of 2021? Here’s a hint, it’s not clothing.
Nope – it’s carbon offsets! But what the heck is a carbon offset? When you buy something from us at checkout, you can add carbon offsets (to the tune of $0.26) to neutralize the shipment of your order. But what exactly does that mean?
Carbon offsetting involves calculating the amount of carbon emissions generated by a particular activity (such as shipping a package) and then purchasing an instrument (either an offset or a Renewable Energy Credit) that pays for avoiding or sequestering the same amount of carbon elsewhere in the environment.
We've partnered with Cloverly, to make this process possible and seamless. When you checkout on our site, you're given the option to "add $0.26 for carbon neutral delivery" and away you go.
This year, your contributions have funded 10 global projects that contribute to the reduction of carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas production. Some of the most funded projects of the year are:
Prairie Pothole Avoided Grassland – a North Dakota project aimed at preserving prairie wetlands and preventing them from being turned into grazing land.
McCloud River Forest Conservation – 9000 acres of California sustainably harvested timberland, that keeps outdoor recreation and species of the McCloud River at the forefront of management practices.
South Kent Landfill – a Michigan project that turns methane from decomposing waste into energy that is used to power the grid.
